Wildfire response closes trails and recreation areas in the Columbia River Gorge area.

Due to the Whisky Creek Fire and the Microwave Tower Fire in the Columbia River Gorge, many recreation areas and trails are closed.

Refer to the map below and double check online to make sure that the trails you are headed to are open and safe. Please do not enter any closed areas, they are closed for your safety and the safety of the fire fighters.

Reminder:

The Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail is CLOSED from MOSIER TO HOOD RIVER including the East AND West Hatfield Trailheads. There is an old disposal site on fire near the trail, creating noxious smoke. Please do not enter the closed area.  (Not pictured on the map.)

Why are trails closed? When will they open? Where can I go instead? They are closed for safety for you and the firefighters. They will reopen after it is safe to do so. Explore areas on the westside of the Gorge away from the fires.

Preparing for your hike:

  1. Make sure where you are headed is open and clear of any closures.
  2. Make an alternative plan in case sudden closures are in place.
  3. Check for road closures on Tripcheck.com.
  4. Enable Wireless Emergency Alerts on your cell phone.
  5. Check local air quality, conditions can change quickly. (Download the "OregonAir" app for your smartphone.)
  6. Pack your essentials and tell a friend where you are going and when to expect you to return.
