Driftwood Beach State Recreation Site

May 10, 2021 Note: the parking lot will close as early as June 1 for 8-12 months during a wave energy research project led by Oregon State University. More information is available at Pacwaveenergy.org. The beach will remain open, as will a nearby portable toilet outside the construction area. Check out nearby parks like Governor Patterson and Seal Rock for options.

Driftwood Beach State Wayside provides access to the ocean and picnic facilities scattered among the shore pine. The area offers a wide, flat, sandy beach. A great place for beachcombing and enjoying beautiful sunsets.

Parking lot will be temporarily closed starting as early as June 1 for an energy project run by PacWave, an Oregon State University wave energy initiative.

Information about the project will be provided at two virtual town hall meetings scheduled for 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. May 10. Register at pacwaveenergy.org

History

The land was acquired first by purchase of 7.70 acres in 1968 and then in 1986, by a gift of 29 acres from L. Presley Gill.
