First Day Hike Historic Columbia River State Trail (East)

  • The guided 2- to 3.5-mile, roundtrip hike will include information about the cultural, ecological and geological history of the Columbia River Gorge from time immemorial through the present. Expect dramatic views of the Columbia Gorge. The hike will culminate at the namesake Mosier Twin Tunnels, an impressive feat of engineering preserved today as a historic landmark.
  • The trail is wide and fully paved with gradual elevations changes. Handicap parking is available, but the restroom at the trailhead is not ADA accessible. There is no water available at the trail.
  • Personal mobility devices and strollers are welcome as well. While the trail is open to cyclists, bikes may struggle to stay on a slow pace and are discouraged.
  • Friendly dogs are welcome on six-foot leashes.
  • Participants should dress in layers, wear sturdy shoes appropriate for ice and snow, and bring water and snacks, as well as a camera or binoculars for wildlife viewing.
