Join a Park Ranger for a guided hike at Sikta Sedge State Natural Area to celebrate the New Year. This trail provides opportunities for bird watching, whale watching, and mushroom identification. You will start at the Stika Sedge Parking lot and hike the Beltzs Dike which goes through the Sandlake Estuary, providing an opportunity to bird watch and maybe even see a river otter. From there you will hike a loop trail through the forest with views of the estuary and access to the beach. The trail on the dike is packed with gravel and level. once you enter the forest the trail narrows some and is a mix of dirt and sand with small ups and downs. The total distance is 2.5 miles. Come prepared for the weather and a good time!

Traffic note: Sandlake Road south of the Tierra Del Mar beach access  and north of Cape Kiwanda near McPhillips Beach access  is closed because of road damage.  No detour is in place. Visitors to Sitka Sedge State Natural Area can access the park by taking Sandlake Road from the north off U.S. 101.
