Shore Acres State Park Meet at the Shore Acres Observation Building

None scheduled

Join park staff for a guided two mile hike along the beautiful Oregon Coast Trail within Shore Acres State Park!

Following OPRD's annual whale watch week, December 27th - 31st, we will take our whale watching out of the Shore Acres observation building and onto the spectacular Oregon coast trail where we will talk about, and continue to look for, Gray Whales as they migrate south passing the many overlooks and viewpoints along the trail. Trail considerations:

  • Uneven and moderately steep terrain on portions of the trail.
  • Little to no elevation gain.
  • Moderate difficulty.

Path is uneven, mostly natural surface with many exposed roots. There are paved trails around the observation building that offer views of the ocean and opportunities to look for whales. The visitors that chose this option can still get the introduction talk before the group heads down the trail and can do the same activity as the rest of the group from these paved locations.

Dress for winter weather on the Oregon Coast. This means wear warm rain gear, and waterproof footwear with good traction. Binoculars are encouraged. We may see Whales!

Dogs are not allowed at Shore Acres State Park. The event is free, and all day-use parking fees are waived for January 1st.
