Join us for an unforgettable night under the stars as we witness the Perseid Meteor Shower—one of the dark sky’s most spectacular shows! Occurring every year from July 14 to September 1, when Earth passes through debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids are famous for their bright, fast meteors and occasional fireballs streaking across the sky at speeds of about 37 miles per second. At their peak in mid-August, you can see up to 50–100 meteors per hour, especially after midnight when the constellation Perseus is high overhead. Be sure to ask the Ranger how you yourself can report these spectacular fireball sightings to the American Meteor Society after spotting one. Bring a blanket, a red-lensed flashlight, chairs, and something warm.
