Join park staff and volunteers in a celebration of the winter season at Silver Falls. The festival will highlight the seasonal changes that can be seen in the winter. Activities will include the following:
South Falls District
- Make a wreath at the Evergreen Shelter
- Build a bird nest box at the Creekside Shelter or make a bird feeder or bird crafr in the Stone Kitchen Shelter
- Attend a guided walk, meeting at the South Falls Lodge Courtyard
- 11 am: Winter Tree ID hike (1-hour hike, 1/2 mile)
- 12 pm: Mushroom ID hike (1-hour hike, 1/2 mile)
- 1 pm: Winter Tree ID hike (1-hour hike, 1/2 mile, Saturday only)
- 2 pm: Mushroom ID hike (1-hour hike, 1/2 mile)
- Visit a discovery table to learn about lichens, animal tracks, the winter solstice, how the waterfalls change with the seasons, or how syrup is made from our native bigleaf maple trees (maple syrup Saturday only)
Smith Creek Village (1.5 miles from South Falls District)
- Decorate a gingerbread or sugar cookie
- Learn how to propagate a native plant and take one home with you
- Hot food will be available to purchase at the Bigleaf Market & Grill
An event passport will be available at the information table. If you visit at least 8 of the 12 stations, you can show your passport and receive a limited edition commemorative ornament.
All activities are free, but a day-use parking permit is required. Permits cost $10 per day for Oregon Residents or $12 for non-residents; annual permits are also sold at the park for $30.
