Goose Lake State Recreation Area is an oasis teeming with wildlife and mountain views on the Oregon-California border. The campground sits adjacent to Goose Lake with mature shade trees and irrigated grass areas.
Migratory waterfowl are most abundant in the Spring and early Summer. Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles and many other species can be viewed throughout the warmer months and well into the Fall. Mule Deer frequent the park and can be found feeding on dropped apples from an old homesteader's orchard located within the campground.
The park provides a base from which to explore areas such as Hart Mountain Wildlife Refuge, the 8,500-foot Warner Mountains just east of the park, and the obsidian beds in the Modoc National Forest of northeast California. Nearby Lakeview, OR (15 miles north) offers fuel, groceries, vehicle repair services, and restaurants.
The park’s is far from major urban light sources and located in a designated International Dark Sky Place. The certification recognizes the exceptional quality of the area’s night skies as well as local efforts to preserve and protect dark sites through responsible lighting policies and public education
